Login Problems

My browser won’t display pages from the IMS website, how can I fix this?

Some Internet Service Providers (ISP's) are a little different in that not only do they give you access to the internet, they also supply you with their own browser software. A browser is the piece of software that is used to display the pages of the internet on your computer, AOL’s is a little different to most and some people find that this can make things a little confusing.

Problems can occur if the technology of the ISP's browser software is not compatible with the internet technology that some websites (including the IMS website) uses and it is possible that some team members may experience problems displaying the IMS website if they use a browser other than Internet Explorer. (Internet Explorer is the default Microsoft browser installed with Windows and is the browser that the majority of ISP's use).

AOL is one example of an ISP that has developed its own browser software to use instead of  Internet Explorer.

IMS do not support any Internet service providers or browser software packages. However in order to access all of the features on the IMS websites we recommend using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or above.

If you are using an ISP that uses its own unique browser software (such as AOL), you can still use Internet Explorer to display the pages of the IMS website. To do this simply connect to the internet in your usual way, then minimise your ISP browser page, and open Internet Explorer by clicking the blue 'e' icon on your desktop (if the blue 'e' is not displayed on your desktop, locate Internet Explorer via the Start>Programs menu).

Once Internet Explorer has opened simply type the IMS website address (www.ukims.co.uk) into the white bar near the top of the screen next to where it says 'Address' and press enter. This will then use Internet Explorer to display the pages of the IMS website but your computer will still access the internet using your existing ISP.

If you do not have Internet Explorer or wish to download an updated copy of Internet Explorer for free, visit the Internet Explorer section of the Microsoft website at www.microsoft.com/ie

I can enter my login details but can't log in, how can I fix this?

There are several possible situations that can cause login problems. Please try the solutions detailed below, however if you are still experiencing problems after trying these then please don’t hesitate to give the Support Team a call.

Note 1 - Apple Macs

Unfortunately due to the technology that the IMS website utilises, it is not possible to login from Apple Mac computers at this time, and to access the IMS website you will need to use a PC.

Note 2 - Internet browsers

We do not support any Internet service providers or browser software packages. However in order to access all of the features on the IMS websites we recommend using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0. If you would like to check which version of Internet explorer you are using, click the Help tab on the browser toolbar, and then click the 'About Internet Explorer' option.

If you are using an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that uses its own unique browser software (such as AOL), you can still use Internet Explorer to access the IMS website. To do this simply connect to the internet in your usual way, then minimise your ISP browser page, and open Internet Explorer by clicking the blue 'e' on your desktop. (Please see 'Problem 4 - AOL & NTL' below for more info).

To download an updated copy of Internet Explorer for free, visit the Internet Explorer section of the Microsoft website at www.microsoft.com/ie

IMPORTANT NOTE

Once you have downloaded the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer it is important that you read and apply the solution to 'Problem 5 – Internet Explorer version 6.0' that is included below.

Problem 1 - Fire Walls

If you have a fire wall installed on your computer and are having problems logging on to the IMS website you may need to check the Script Blocking settings within the firewall. For some firewall systems these will need to be disabled to allow some of the hidden scripts to run that are an essential part of the logging on process.

The "Ad Blocking" feature within the latest versions of Norton Internet Security can also occasionally cause problems when either logging in to the IMS website (only a blank screen appears after entering log in details) or when trying to upload the results of completed calls (the "Complete My Calls" window does not Pop up). If you have Norton Internet Security installed on your computer and find that this is the case, then this feature can be disabled by following the instructions below:

1.        Open Norton Internet Security,

2.        Click on Add Blocking

3.        Click on Configure

4.        Remove the tick in the "Turn on Pop Up Window Blocking" option.

5.        Click OK

Problem 2 - Incorrect details

Visit the IMS website at www.ukims.co.uk, click on 'login' on the main menu and then click on the word 'here' where it appears on the text 'Can't remember your password? Click here'. By entering your email address this will send you an email which includes your current username and password.

Using the username and password from the email try logging in again, entering the details exactly as they appear on the email. One common mistake is using a letter instead of a number, or vice versa (e.g. typing '1' instead of 'I' etc).

Problem 3 - Cached data

Every time you visit a web page your computer will store temporary files in its memory to try and speed up the time it takes to display the page if you visit it again. However over time this can cause a number of problems if your computer has old versions of a page stored in its memory or if a large amount of pages are stored.

If you have old data stored in the temporary internet files on your computer it may occasionally prevent you from either logging on successfully to the IMS website, or will cause your computer to display an old version of a web page that it has stored in its memory, rather than downloading a new updated version from the internet.

Therefore, if you are having problems reaching our website, having problems logging in or reaching pages successfully, or if you think you are not seeing an up to date version of one of the pages, please follow the instructions below:

1.       On your computer click 'Start > Settings > Control Panel' and then double click 'Internet Options'. Or if you use Internet Explorer, open your browser and on the grey bar at the top select 'Tools > Internet Options'.

2.       On Internet Options box that opens up, click on the 'General' tab.

3.       In the section middle section entitled 'Temporary Internet Files' click the 'Delete files' button.

4.       On the pop-up box click the 'delete all offline content' checkbox, and click OK.

5.       It may take a few minutes to delete all of your temporary files if this has not been done for some time.

Problem 4 - AOL & NTL

Some Internet Service Providers (ISP's) are a little different in that not only do they give you access to the internet, they also supply you with their own browser software. A browser is the piece of software that is used to display the pages of the internet on your computer, AOL’s is a little different to most and some people can find that this can make things a little confusing.

This will then use Internet Explorer to display the pages of the IMS website but your computer will still access the internet using your existing ISP.

Problem 5 – Internet Explorer version 6.0

Please try this solution if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0. If you are unsure of which version you are using, open Internet Explorer and click the Help>About Internet Explorer on the top toolbar.

There is a problem with the privacy settings within Internet Explorer 6 that can cause some people to experience problems when trying to login to the IMS website. This problem doesn’t occur for everyone but if you do have login problems after installing IE6, to solve the problems all you need to do is to add the IMS website as a trusted site.

To do this simply complete the following steps:

1.       Open your browser (just like you would do if you were going to go onto the Internet), click the work 'Tools' on the toolbar at the top of the screen and select 'Internet Options'.

2.       Once the Internet Options box appears, click the tab marked 'Security', click on the trusted sites icon and click the button that says 'Sites…'

3.       Make sure the box next to the statement 'require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone' does NOT have a tick in it.

4.       Type the IMS website address (http://www.ukims.co.uk) in to the space provided (under the words 'Add this web site to the zone'), then click OK and then click OK again.

You may then need to close your browser and re-open it and/or restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
